Poker Dictionary

All-In	To be 'All-In' is to have wagered all of one's chips.
Ante	Forced bets all players must make before receiving cards.
Bet	To bet is to wager any amount equal to or greater than the big blind.
Big Blind	The big blind is the position two spots to the left of the dealer button. The big blind is also the amount that needs to be matched or raised by other players at the table if they wish to play the hand.
Blinds	Forced bets placed by two players to the left of the dealer button. The small blind is to the dealer's immediate left, and the big blind is to the small blind's immediate left. The small blind is typically half the cost of the big blind.
Button	The Dealer button is used to determine the order of action before and after the flop. The button moves one position clockwise around the table after every hand.
Buy-in	The cost of entering a tournament. Most of the buy-in amount funds the tournament prize pool, while some portion is retained by the poker provider as a fee. Can also refer informally to the typical amount of money brought to the table at a given stakes level, as in "Mike has enough in his bankroll to buy-in to 2/4 game tonight." ($400 or 100 big blinds)
Call	To match the current bet. If there are no further raises on this street then you’ll see the next card or get to see your opponent’s hand if it’s on the river.
Cash buy-in	The amount of money a player starts with in a cash game. Typically, the minimum buy-in is 40 big blinds, and typical maximum buy-in is 100 big blinds.
Check	To 'Check' is to decline to bet or raise. Checking is only an option if there is no wager that needs to be matched.
Community cards	Cards dealt face-up in the middle of the table, that are used/shared by all players in the hand.
Dealer button	The Dealer button is used to determine the order of action before and after the flop. The button moves one position clockwise around the table after every hand.
Flop	The flop is three community cards dealt face-up and the betting round associated with it. Follows the pre-flop betting round, and comes before the Turn betting round.
Flop	The first community (shared) cards that are played face-up following pre-flop betting.
Fold	To 'Fold' is to choose to not match the current bet, return one's cards to the dealer, and end one's participation in the hand.
Hole cards	Cards dealt face-down to a player and visible only to that player. The first two cards that you're dealt in Texas Hold'em.
Kicker	A card in a poker hand that does not itself take part in determining the rank of the hand, but that may be used to break ties between hands of the same rank
Payout	An amount won in a tournament. As in "my payout for finishing 8th in last night's tournament was $500".
Paytable	The awards schedule for a tournament that determines how much prize pool is allocated to each finishing position relative to the number of entrants.
Pot	The tournament chips or cash in the middle of the table, that can be won by one or more players.
Pre-flop	Pre-flop refers to the first stage of the hand when two hole cards are dealt to each player, and the betting round associated with it.
Raise	To 'Raise' is to increase the size of the current bet by any amount that is at least 2x the current bet.
Re-enter	Some tournaments allow players who have been eliminated to pay another buy-in and try again. Re-entry will typically be available during the late registration stage of the tournament.
Rebuy	Topping up of cash game table balance to the highest amount allowed. Informal and could also be referred to as a reload.
Reload	Topping up of cash game table balance to the highest amount allowed. Could also be referred to as a rebuy.
River	The River is the fifth and final community card dealt face-up, and the betting round associated with it.
Showdown	If all players check the river, or if there are bets/raises and those bets are called, then players will show their cards and the best five-card combination wins.
Sitting out	To be 'Sitting Out' is to be absent from the table. When sitting out, antes/blinds are posted automatically, and the hand is folded immediately after being dealt. It is not possible to win a hand while sitting out.
Small blind	The small blind is the position one spot to the left of the dealer button. The small blind is also a forced bet made by the player in that position, and is typically half of the big blind amount.
Split pot	A split pot is one that is shared by two or more players. A pot can be split because of a showdown of hands of equal rank, or because the particular poker game has multiple winning conditions as in Omaha High/Low. If there is an odd amount of the smallest denomination chip, it will be awarded to the player closest to the button in clockwise order.
Tournament buy-in	The amount a player must pay to enter a tournament. Most will go to the tournament prize pool, and some will be retained by 4Poker as a fee.
Turn	The Turn is the fourth community card dealt face up, and the betting round associated with it.
